Change is Good

Like all things...in time change comes.

A part of us at Serendipity 7 feel very resistant to change because we are just so happy in our sweet brick and mortar shop.  It is sweet, beautiful and totally ours.  It is also for sale and we can't purchase it!  Hence...change!

So, in an effort to keep growing and expanding we are embracing CHANGE and have made a rather big decision! (drum roll...please)

Serendipity 7 is joining forces
with 3 other AMAZING local artists,
Suzanne Miller, Nikki Cooper, Nikki Saugstad
to create GREEN CHICKS!

There are several reasons we decided to go outside our comfort zone (and cute little shop), but mostly it is to grow as a business.   Between the 2 of us and the "7" children we can only manage to open our space for boutique weekends.  Being apart of Green Chics means we will be sharing the space and will be able to be open 6 days a week!  Green Chick's space is also on Monroe's Historic Square, which is a wonderful bonus!!  This is good...very good!!!  Change is good.  Our space with Green Chicks is going to be beautiful, inspired and filled with even more art and upcycled goodness!

Plus, how awesome is it to see  women artists coming together to support one another....to create something new and totally different together!!!

While we will miss our little shop... it was all ours, but we are equally excited about the possibilities of change, of going outside our comfort zone to be apart of Green Chicks!

Green Chicks new art studio/mini-gallery is located at
1606 11th Street, Suite 2
on the south side of the downtown square (above The Green Door).

Green Chicks  working art studio/mini gallery is now OPEN!!!Hours: Monday - Friday 9am - 6pm, Saturday 10am - 2 pm

Until the expanded gallery space is ready later this year you will still find
Serendipity 7 in our cute little brick house at 909 15th Ave.
Our next boutique weekend is right after Thanksgiving!
Friday Nov 23rd 4-8  & Nov 24th 10-5

Be sure to shop local on Black Friday!

It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Okay, okay.  I know it is barely past Halloween and not even Thanksgiving yet but if you are thinking about decorating for the holiday season you have to have the items you need beforehand!  That is why Serendipity 7 has decided to stay open through December!

I am IN LOVE with this vintage Santa,
fabulous on a mantle or as a centerpiece on a holiday table.

Wondering what to put on your mantle this holiday season?  How about this JOY sign made from old, reclaimed garage door panels?  It would also look great on a wall and I would consider leaving it up the whole year round...who doesn't need a little more joy in their life?

So the tree is up, the house is looking festive and fabulous.
Onto the gifts...don't you have someone in your life that would like some hand knit, fingerless gloves?  I'm thinking favorite babysitter, teacher gift...(believe me, they have enough ornaments) or your hip sister-in-law.  They are perfect for driving and using your smartphone...though hopefully not at the same time.  We at Serendipity 7 want to promote safety first!

Imagine baby's first time on Santa's lap,
you know the one where the baby is screaming in terror?
You could display that classic moment in this adorable frame made from vintage Golden Books.

So check out Serendipity 7 this weekend in Monroe.  We have only 4 more open weekends until we close our doors on 15th Avenue.  So sad.  :(

So much fun!

Originally we intended to open our shop for three months, September thru November,
but we are having such fun and are being so well received we decided to be open through the
month of December.
Why not take advantage of the holiday shopping season?
Okay, a good part of our decision was the prospect of decorating the shop for the holidays.
Is it sad that decorating joy is equal to profits in our minds?
I think not.

With that said, please keep Serendipity 7 in mind for your holiday shopping needs.  We promise to feature one of a kind items that are totally artful, whimsical and unique.
Gifts that tell the receiver that some thought and love was put into their gift.

Here are some items we will be featuring this weekend at Serendipity 7.  Stop in Friday night and join us for New Glarus Brewery's "Serendipity" Ale...
we couldn't resist.

This vintage shelf is perfect for displaying pictures, artwork, books, a wine collection....

There are even little chalkboard labels for you to write whatever your heart desires!

We are loving this up cycled piece!
We imagine it hanging in a dining room showcasing your favorite wines.  The perfect holiday or wedding gift.  But it also could sit on a dresser and display picture books or photos...the possibilities are endless!

And this vintage, tripod lamp with that fab shade!
Jeni really outdid herself this time.  Just when you think she has to be tapped out creatively she comes up with something like this.

LOVE IT!

So come on in this weekend, have a seat in these sweet, up cycled chairs,
(don't you just love the chevron?), sip some Serendipity Ale and check out all the new, fabulous
items including new jewelry from Chris Callahan and items from Rekindled!

In between

At Serendipity 7 it is one of our intentions to make
each boutique weekend feel a little different in the shop!
Always inspired, always unique and one of a kind...

At Serendipity 7 there will always be something new and different!

As a result, in between our boutique weekends we are busy being full time Mom's with "the 7"
while also happily finding time to create new pieces to fill the shop!

We love to take a piece and give it a new life....
and this dresser below is a wonderful example of this!
It shall be known as the "So Fab" dresser.

We sold the first kaliedscope dresser at the last boutique sale....
but it was so much fun to paint and so great in the space that there had to be another.
"Kaliedoscope II"

Each and every piece takes on a life of its own...
This piece was saying "make me look like I sat on the beach for years"
This piece is so perfect for any casual space.

Here the sweetest little doll set!
Can't you just see it sitting my a Christmas tree?!
The youngest of the "7" thinks it may belong to one of her dolls.

We are creating pieces large and small....this upcycled lamp/table is beautifully unique.

And we just know someone out there is going to love this vintage stereo console....with record player and 8-track!   yes!   It is so fun and has been updated with a new paint.  We have had the radio going and just need to spin some records this weekend for our boutique hours!

I imagine this piece being loved by a music lover....someone who wants to embrace a piece of history, collect records and may even have a HD t.v. hanging above it with a modern charging station on top.  Something old becoming new again!

Our boutique hours this weekend:
October 12th 4-8 for cocktail hour....red neck margaritas!
October 13 10-5p.m.
Children are always welcome- we have a playroom!

Featured artist...Mary Hedeman

My favorite things in life are when a project, a dream or a relationship has a life of its own.  When you stop trying to control all the aspects of something and just trust it will lead you in the best possible direction.  Serendipity 7 has been the essence of that.

The creative juices keep flowing and Jeni and I don't do a lot of "planning," we just work on what moves us at the time and items to be up cycled just seem to appear...like magic.

Another thing that hasn't been planned, is this amazing collection of artists that have been a part of this journey.

Even though they work with different media and have styles all their own, the one common denominator of the artists of Serendipity 7 is the genuine love for the process of creating.
This couldn't be more true for our newest artist Mary Hedeman.

I love the joyful, whimsical quality of her work and when you meet her you can't help but notice the spirit and love she puts into her art.

With the holiday season coming up, I can't wait to make a few purchases of my own, it will be like giving my dear friends and family what I wish for them...joy, fun and the sense of comfort one feels when holding a well made mug of something warm on a cozy night.

The Hour

My grandparents had a daily ritual for years.
Everyday at 4:00p.m.
During "the hour" it was their time to pour a Brandy 7, to sit down together for conversation, to watch the news.  "The hour" to enjoy and just relax.  They didn't overindulge.  It was a civilized ritual.
Everyday they did this.
Everyday together.  Sometimes with friends.
They had a "their"signature drink poured from their stylish mid-century modern bar, including vintage glassware,  shaker, pitchers, jiggers, muddlers and stirrers.

It seems "the hour" was a common ritual for this generation.
Perhaps one we should bring back with the hectic pace we keep today.

So, tonight we are bringing back "the hour" with old fashioneds and some vintage hor derves that they would have served back in the day.

We are OPEN tonight, Friday September 28th from 4-8p.m. for "the hour".
(This piece by Deb Meyer will be on display!)

Come enjoy an old-fashioned on us, soak up some vintage style and see all the new upcycling that we have been up to.

Boutique hours this weekend on Sept 29th Saturday 10a.m.-5p.m.
Kids are always welcome... we have a playroom!

Featured artist...Deb Meyer

Since neither Jeni and I are Monroe natives, we sometimes grieve the fact that our families don't live nearby.  We can't have Sunday dinners together or have our mom stop by on a random day and talk us down from some seemingly endless potty training session.  I think that is one of the reasons we bonded so completely when we met, we were fully immersed in young motherhood and knew we needed to create our own village in which to raise our children.  Jeni is my children's aunt, godmother and friend.
She is my soul sister.

And in this village we have created for ourselves Deb Meyer would undoubtably be the mom.  She is this amazing, creative, talented, beautiful woman who has taken us in, saw what we couldn't quite see in ourselves and coaxed it out of us.  She listens to our struggles and guides us without judgement.  Her love and complete confidence in our abilities has undoubtably been one of our lives greatest gifts.

Not to mention she is a ridiculously talented artist and Serendipity 7 is lucky enough to feature some of her work!

Come and see more works by Deb Meyer September 28th and 29th at Serendipity 7 in Monroe, WI.  You better move fast because this piece in particular may have to come home with me!

An inside look at our new little shop!

Our "7"

Wear Art!

We love art....and no space would be complete without it!
As we get our new home ready for our grand opening tomorrow night, we look around and see our vintage and upcycpled creations, and art from local artists.

Chris Callahan is a friend of us here at Serendipity 7 and a truly gifted artist.
You can't help but see Chris' work and want to touch it....and to wear it!
Chris designs and creates beautiful handcrafted art jewelry.  Her inspiration comes from her love of vintage and ethnic jewelry in combination with a passion for textile and design.  She uses high quality components to make her jewelry including sterling silver, semi-precious stones, pearls, vintage and reclaimed pieces, clay, handmade beads and an array of fabrics and fibers.

Her work is STUNNING....and will be featured exclusively at Serendipity 7!

color please

I enjoy playing with color whether it be on canvas and on furniture!
Oh, how I love a punch of color!
I was so excited to start painting this one, I totally forgot to do a "before" shot so you would get the dramatic effect...but just
imagine this mid-century modern dresser
all sad, brown and drab.
boo hoo.
It too was a blank palette and was deserving of being awesome.

And now see it in all its glory!
This shall be known as kaleidoscope dresser.
How awesome would this be in a family room
with a t.v. on top and drawers for all those dvds and doodads?!
It has to be my favorite piece
so far....just makes me smile, I tell you!

This next piece said to me...."make me cool".
So, I did and gave it "ombre"
I present to you the
"cool ombre mid-century modern desk".

We are having all kinds of fun being creative
and playing with color!
We open our doors September 7th 4-8 p.m.
Until then my hands will continue to look like this....

old to new again

Here are Serendipity 7 we get a real kick out of making something old new again!

Like what was once a vintage sewing machine table
which becomes a one of a kind end table.

If you should chose, you certainly could do a bit of sewing here.

We like the idea of opening the doors and putting your remote control, phone or other "unmentionables"(ah, hem) inside.

And for a another blast from the past,
check out these vintage coffee cans which previously sat in a basement full of old rusty nails.
Look closely for the "New! Use Can Opener" label...
gotta love that.

We are in love with these cans and love how the succulents give them a new life.

As I drink my coffee from my Kuerig pod,
I think back to these cans opening in my grandparents kitchen.

And you all know you have a "nutty friend" who will surely appreciate this one!

We have so many wonderful old to new again creations to share with you...

Even our shop is an old to new.....
once a home and now becoming our little brick & mortar shop!
Like many things "old" it is full of charm and character
and is just in need of a little love to be envisioned as something new!
Serendipity 7's new fall home!
